Biography

Untitled

Some two years ago, I moved to High Point, N.C from the State of Maryland. I officially retired at the end of 2019, having worked for the Federal Government and for companies with contracts with the Government for approximately forty (40) plus years. In terms of Federal employment, I started off as a low-level clerk typist with the Department of Transportation and ended up in 2016 as the Director, Acquisition Policy, with the Department of Commerce.  In between, I had held several non-managerial and managerial positions, including positions as an attorney, first in 1982 with the Department of the Navy and the last with the Department of Health and Human Services in 1999.  As an attorney for the Federal Government, I practiced administrative and Federal contract law.

Between 2000 and 2016, I opened a one-woman law office in Arlington, VA, for a short period of time, and then over the remaining years, I also worked for the National Institutes of Health, FEMA, the Department of Agriculture, and the IRS.  My very last position (from 2017-2019) was as a consultant/acquisition subject matter expert under contract with the Department of Interior.  I reviewed acquisition training material for accuracy, based on my extensive knowledge of the acquisition process, applicable regulations, and laws governing the acquisition process.

As to my education, I attended a community college in Alexandria, VA.  I graduated in 1979 from George Mason University, Annadale, VA with a degree in Business Administration, and in 1982, I graduated from Duke University School of Law, Durham N.C.

During the 2020 COVID lockdown, I started a home-based business/consultancy assisting a small woman-owned business in Virginia that was having issues with its contract with the Federal Government.  In 2021, I also volunteered for the Greensboro Urban Ministries.

I am a Republican and have been one since my very first vote for Ronald Reagan when he ran for the presidency.  When I lived in Arlington, VA, I served as a precinct captain for the Arlington, Va. Republican Party.  Several months after relocating to High Point, I joined the Guilford County GOP, where I served as their Political Analyst.  I also joined the Greater Greensboro Republican Women’s Club, where I served as their Legislative Chair and wrote for their BLOG.  Dr. Thomas Sowell—economist, philosopher, author—greatly influenced my conservative thinking.
I am a member of the Fredrick Douglass Foundation of North Carolina. I also serve on the Executive Advisory Council for the Remarkable Speakers Bureau, Greensboro, N.C.

I have family in Jamestown, N.C, Lawndale, N.C, and, in the states of California, Pennsylvania, Florida, Ohio, Virginia, and Maryland.  I am the oldest of four—two half-sisters and a half-brother.
